In 2019, our 40th Anniversary year, The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans is looking for self-motivated student interns with a keen interest in environmental science and intermediate to advanced skills in technology such as:
Visual arts & photography/videography
Web-design & development (wordpress)
to undertake creative projects that facilitate our research, education and conservation work in the desert, marine, and coastal ecosystems of our spectacular eco-region! Take-on an independently motivated project that you love to work on, gain experience, and be recognized formally for your contribution to our world-class organization. There may also be opportunities to be at the field station on a part-time basis.
CEDO is an award winning, bi-national, (501c3) nonprofit organization based in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, México, with an office in Tucson, Arizona (Broadway & Swan). Our board and supporters are made up of influential members of the local community, academics, and concerned citizens of all ages and backgrounds, and we function like one big, intercultural family.Our various programs, from our in-depth work with small-scale fishermen in the northern Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), to our beach clean-ups, eco-tours and educational curriculums aim to promote a hands-on environmental culture.

CEDO offers a variety of volunteer opportunities at our Tucson office and on campus in Puerto Peñasco. There are many ways you can support CEDO’s work, from the office to the field.

CEDO’s Wet Feet Summer Camp 2019, with YOUR help, could be our best camp yet!
Kids, ages 10-14, come to CEDO every summer to enjoy educational and recreational activities at camp. During the camp we visit San Jorge “Bird” Island, Morua Estuary, and the tide pools, but also we learn about the natural and cultural history of the Gulf of California. We play, dance, create, meet new people, watch movies, and do many other activities that kids will enjoy and will take knowledge and respect for the environment home with them.
If you have the minimum qualities and qualifications listed below, you are welcome to apply as a volunteer to CEDO’s summer camp to have a wonderful experience, working with kids and enjoying the magnificent beauty of the Upper Gulf of California and the Sonoran Desert.
At east 18 years old
English speaker (bilingual is even better)
Fun and outgoing personality
Sensitive to cultural differences
Some experience working with kids
General knowledge of marine biology and environmental studies
Enjoy outdoor activities and long days in the sun
Cooking ability (not obligatory)
Able to travel to Rocky Point
Able to stay in CEDO’s field station 3 weeks aprox. in late June, 2019
